This case, decided ultimately in 1954, saw Earl Warren writing on behalf of a unanimous Court. In this case the Court famously overturned the central holding in Plessy v. Ferguson, opining that separate but equal accommodations were not constitutional, and could not be made so. The Court relied on 1950s social science to bolster its holding, finding refuge in the Kenneth Clark doll test.
