Lehrman American Studies Center Full-time Staff

Josiah Bunting III, Lt. General (Ret), President, Lehrman American Studies Center

General Bunting is the president of the Lehrman American Studies Center and also serves collaterally as President of The Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation in New York City. He was educated at the Virginia Military Institute, Oxford University as a Rhodes scholar, and Columbia University, where he was a John Burgess Fellow. He is the author of five books, most recently a biography of Ulysses S. Grant. Mr. Bunting served his country as an infantry officer in Vietnam and was for eight years superintendent (president) of the Virginia Military Institute.

Jeffrey Nelson, Ph.D., Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer

Jeffrey O. Nelson is Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer and the former president of Thomas More College of Liberal Arts in Merrimack, New Hampshire. Prior to joining Thomas More, Dr. Nelson was Senior Vice President, Educational Program at ISI and served as publisher of ISI Books, the Institute's publishing imprint. He was for ten years the editor of The Intercollegiate Review. He has edited several volumes: Redeeming the Time, by Russell Kirk, Perfect Sowing: Reflections of a Bookman, by Henry Regnery, Remembered Past by John Lukacs and American Conservatism: An Encyclopedia. Jeff also served as the general editor of the Institute's "Student Guides to the Major Disciplines" series and the "Library of Modern Thinkers."

Kelly Hanlon, Executive Director

Kelly graduated from the McConnell Center at the University of Louisville with a B.A. in political science and psychology. She is currently pursuing a master's degree in economics at the University of Delaware. As the Director of the Lehrman American Studies Center, Kelly oversees the annual Summer Institute at Princeton University and provides year round support to the Lehrman American Studies Center Fellows through innovative programs including an annual lecture series as well as providing opportunities for scholarly collaboration. Kelly joined ISI in 2005 as a Conference and Event Coordinator. Since then she has held positions with ISI's Core Programs Department as the Lecture Director and with the University Reform Department as the Department Manager.

David Kidd, Director of Internet Technology

David is the primary web-developer for the Lehrman Center. He graduated from Baylor University in 2004 with a BA as a University Scholar, having studied philosophy, classics and literature. David pursued his interest in Plato and Augustine at Villanova University and completed his MA in Philosophy in May of 2007.

Jennifer Koontz, Professional Development Director

Jen graduated from Hillsdale College in May 2006 with a B.A. in political science. Following graduation, she managed the operations department at ISI and is now responsible for the cultivation and expansion of the Lehrman American Studies Center's Professional Development Program.
