"Religion and Geopolitics: the Crisis of Faith and World Instability"

    Date:              Nov 12 2009
    Time:              7:30 PM
    Location:        Harvard University, Cambridge, MA

The role of religion in geopolitics often is framed in terms of civilizational conflict between Muslim countries and the West. The crisis of faith in face of modernity has deeper implications. Europe's demographic winter frequently is attributed to the decline of Christianity. Just as important, though, are rapid and potentially destabilizing shifts in demographics in the Muslim world. Islamist militance and European apathy are two sides of the same coin: the crisis of faith. Franz Rosenzweig's sociology of religion helps make sense of these seismic changes.
